Cédric est un membre de l'équipe d'Altea qui a fait ses preuves en tant que consultant en sécurité et réseau. Mais également dans une discipline sportive bien particulière. En effet, il a participé à plusieurs triathlons courte distance au Québec cet été (Tremblant, Saint-Agathe, Verdun, Valleyfield) ainsi qu'à 2 Demi-Ironman à Tupper Lake et Montréal en septembre. Son meilleur temps est de 5 h 05 min, réalisé à Montréal.

En juillet dernier, il a également complété son 1er Ironman à Lake Placid. Ce type de course consiste à enchainer 4 km de natation, 180 km de vélo et 42 km de course à pied! Son objectif était de terminer en moins de 12h, et il a franchi la ligne d'arrivée après seulement 11 h 57 min! Autant dire que c'est un bel exploit pour notre ami! Pour réaliser cette performance, Cédric s'est entraîné plusieurs mois, environ 12 à 15 heures par semaine tout en travaillant chez Altea! Il repartait d'ailleurs souvent à vélo et en tenue de sport après le travail afin de garder la forme et être prêt pour le grand jour.

De plus, si vous voulez aller l'encourager, il participera à son second Ironman à Tremblant le 19 août 2012. Cette course est historique car il s'agit du 1^er Ironman au Québec. Grâce à une entente d’une durée de cinq ans survenue avec World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), le Québec va donc pouvoir assister à un événement de taille regroupant professionnels et amateurs venus relever le défi.

Pour cette épreuve d’endurance, qui comprend 3,8 km de nage, 180 km de vélo et 42,195 km de course à pied, le départ sera donné au lac Tremblant, au pied de la montagne. La portion vélo se tiendra ensuite sur la montée Ryan et sur la route 117. Les athlètes compléteront finalement en courant autour du lac Mercier, dans le secteur Village de Mont-Tremblant. Environ 2 500 athlètes sont attendus.

Hackus if you can!

ALTEA will participate in the Hackus, April 1st to 3rd, 2011. The Hackus is a tournament of computer security technology. The second edition will take place April 1st, 2011 at the University of Sherbrooke.

Program :

This year, Hackus team is proposing a new 48 hours of hacking games. The formula will be different from last year. It’s still a contest, so there will be prizes. We want to increase the realism of the competition so we will therefore limit the information related to events in the competition. The competition of 2011 will be the biggest one of hist kind, never seen in Canada before.

During the 48 hours of the competition, participants will be asked to be creative to solve puzzles through technical events.

Like last year, various awards will be presented to winners and participants.

Our Top Ten Predictions for 2011

The most exciting year in Net Optics’ history is drawing to a close, validating many of the strategic commitments we made to meet our customers’ needs. We’ve added over 400 customers, expanded our operations globally and domestically, and launched five major new solutions. Our new offerings address the business-critical concerns of security and management in the 10G-and-above arena; virtualization demands; the trend toward cloud-based services; and the need for streamlined monitoring access and minimized latency. Now, we’ve challenged our experts to give their best shot at forecasting 2011. Save this email for a year and see how we did!  

2011 Will Be the Year of….

The “Wikileaks Effect”—spurring a need for better monitoring infrastructure, Wikileaks will have an impact on future enterprise security planning. Organizations have traditionally focused on endpoint security while internal security has lagged. The problem of monitoring potential insider threats will take on a larger focus in 2011. Unlike the U.S. State Department (which announced that it will deploy automated tools to continuously monitor the classified network and detect anomalies not readily apparent), other organizations will be challenged to adopt new monitoring infrastructures and the perceived complexity of deployment.  

Skyrocketing cost and complexity of monitoring tools—amazingly sophisticated abilities to detect network anomalies and intrusions, fine tune application and WAN performance, and enforce compliance policies will be introduced. These gains will carry an increasingly steep price tag, especially as tools struggle to keep up with 10G, 40G, and 100G network speeds. Due to the high CAPEX and OPEX of these critical tools, it will be more important than ever to use them efficiently to attain maximum ROI. Network access devices will serve as a cost-effective solution for optimizing tool use by enabling tools to be shared across groups, offloading pre-filtering functionality, and providing dynamic load balancing so traffic can be split across multiple tools working in parallel.

Monitoring layers will be designed into network architectures—as network monitoring becomes more pervasive to address rising volumes of mission-critical multi-protocol traffic. IT engineers will design a monitoring layer (monitoring tools and permanent traffic access points) into the network infrastructure as a fundamental, best practice, system component. Tapping all network critical links requires large numbers of Taps and other traffic access devices such as data monitoring switches. That means higher densities of Taps and other traffic access ports will be needed to conserve rack space, power, and cooling in the data center.

10G migration—10 Gigabit is a mature technology—meaning well understood, workable, and beating 1G technology (multiple 1G links) when higher bandwidths are required. As 2010 saw 10G rolled out in many organizations, 2011 will see 10G migration and appearance in most data centers—pervasively in carriers and service providers.

10G monitoring evolution—even though switching and routing equipment have mastered 10G, monitoring tools such as traffic recorders and Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (IDSs and IPSs) have not kept up. Monitoring equipment vendors are much smaller than Cisco and cannot afford the investment needed to keep pace. So generations of products—especially hardware engines—arrive at significantly longer intervals than switching and routing equipment. To bridge the gap, network architects and monitoring tool vendors will look to load balancing solutions to apply multiple “boxes” in parallel to handle the increased traffic speeds and volumes.

40G and 100G rollout —but only by carriers and service providers—Carriers and Service Providers will lead the way in deploying higher speed networking technology. Some will even skip 40G entirely and move directly to 100G. However, it will only be deployed in industries that truly need the bandwidth, because equipment is still new and very expensive. Engineers who are architecting 40G and 100G networks will pay very close attention to the monitoring access layer, and will be looking to load balancing solutions to once again bridge the gap of slower development of higher speed monitoring tools.  

Growth in Virtual and Cloud Computing—the challenge with widespread adoption of virtualization involves protecting the information and applications within their virtual infrastructure. In 2011 many IT administrators will face the harsh reality that they are not. Rapid adoption, fragmented implementation and lack of standardization of virtual infrastructures will continue to expose gaps in security, compliance, and availability. Although virtualization decreases server costs, organizations are realizing that virtualization is increasing management and traffic monitoring costs. Without a protection plan, they may not realize their full return on investment.

The “Cloud Effect”—with more data center and cloud-based solutions being deployed, expect shifts in the approach to securing corporate data. While securing endpoints will be a continued priority, IT departments will need to consider spending on security tools that help manage identities, control access, and protect data as it moves over networks (to and from the data center and the cloud, as well as out to mobile devices).

The Microsoft Hypervisor— Microsoft will violently capture hypervisor market in the data center and give VMWare a real fight. Market predictions are overstating VMWare strength and underestimating the Redmond behemoth.

Enterprise wireless from “nice to have” to replacing wired networks—network managers will seek greater mobility while “right-sizing” wired infrastructure at the edge. The 802.11n standard—which provides wireless performance matching traditional campus networks—and proliferating mobile appliances will raise demand for wireless connectivity. With significant traction in key verticals requiring heightened mobility and the need to improve performance and security, expect higher adoption overall.
